Trouble Shooter (Collier's, 1936)

In 1936, Teague received an assignment from Collier’s that would prove a turning point in his career – Trouble Shooter.  This ten-part Ernest Haycox serial focuses on the building of the transcontinental railroad and, in particular, one man (Frank Peace) charged with maintaining order along the right-of-way.  At age 39, this was Teague’s first big serial assignment.  Teague’s black-and-white illustrations did not disappoint, and his work on this series proved to be a breakthrough both as a general illustrator and in the western genre.  The 1939 Cecil B. DeMille film Union Pacific was based on Trouble Shooter.  Trouble Shooter is presented below essentially in its entirety.  Story text has been omitted for a cleaner presentation.
