Teague’s first two illustrations for Crowell-Collier ran in The American Magazine, not Collier’s. A monthly, The American had higher production values than Collier’s. Over his career, Teague illustrated 56 stories for The American, third to The Saturday Evening Post (195) and Collier’s (162). I find it interesting to compare Teague’s work for The American to his work for Collier’s during this period. Below is a representative sample of Teague’s work for The American during the period 1930-33. Story text has been omitted for a cleaner appearance. I imagine Captain Grim held particular significance for Teague, as the story was co-illustrated with Teague’s mentor Norman Wilkinson.
