With regard to his fine art, Teague is remembered mostly for his westerns and his travel-inspired works (e.g. European scenes). Teague moved with his family from Encino (Los Angeles) to Carmel in 1949, and lived there until his death in late 1991. During his lifetime, Teague stated many times that he didn’t do much work focused on the Monterey Peninsula, as so many other artists had covered or were actively covering the subject matter so well already. And yet… in conducting my research, I’ve found roughly 40 works so far that Teague did where the Monterey Peninsula was the subject matter.
As Teague is still fondly remembered in the area, I present below everything that is presentable. For works where images of both a preliminary and a larger finished work exist, I’ve presented both images. Preliminary works for commissions were most likely destroyed at the end of the project, but may have been given to the buyer. Please forgive some images that are slightly blurry, contain artifact, and/or are not precisely color corrected – I’ve done the best I can with the source material, which is slides taken when the works were created in most instances. I’ve provided black-and-white images in a few instances where no color image exists. The images are presented chronologically, earliest to last. Measurements are in inches.
